What if there is something that can connect us all through feeling, no matter the race, skin color or religion. I’m pleased to say that such a thing does exist and it is known as music. It crosses barriers and unites people from different cultures, beliefs, and social classes all over the world, it truly is the universal language.
“Elis” is a new independent artist in the Electronic music genre that has released his first album titled “Emotionless Ocean” back in April 2020. Having traveled to Japan and South Korea, his experiences have opened his mind to other possibilities. His love for anime and appreciation for Asian culture has greatly influenced his music.
“The album is very dear to me, I got inspired by looking at the ocean in Busan, South Korea while everyone else was hooked on their cell phones and ignoring such a beautiful view in front of them. Sometimes we don’t know what we have until it’s taken from us. This album is about taking back what you’ve lost even though you can’t have it back.”
To me it’s fascinating to learn an artist’s story on what motivates or inspires their work. I try to understand their process and get a look behind the scenes, so I asked Elis how he makes his music.

“All my music is done through FL Studio. My music making process is always changing, as I can start with some chords, drum progression or maybe just a melody. I try not to repeat myself so I don’t get bored. I also try to make my sounds visually, what I mean by that is I look at it like a movie scene in each part of the song, the sounds are my actors, lights, and director.”
As you can see, his process works for him in a unique way and every artist is different. Having personally listened to his album I can honestly say, It is a different experience. The album is composed of subtle melodies, with exigent elements, smooth vocals that blend together naturally, it almost makes you see as much as you feel it.
Every listener will have his own experience but mine was a journey. The album Emotionless Ocean is a story that gradually unfolds to the end. Feeding my curiosity I wanted to know of any future plans on his music.
“I’m currently working on my last two singles for this year, one is scheduled to be released in August and will feature Meghan Kabir, a vocalist from L.A. that sang in “The Dirt” movie on Netflix”
I also asked him, with whom would he like to do a collaboration and he said BTS. They are the biggest K-Pop group in the world. Elis worked on a collaboration with other artists on remixing the song “Boy With Luv” by BTS and K/DA – POP/STARS which has been well received with over 4 million views.
Music is art, and every year thousands of new artists are putting their work out there and yet thousands of them remain unnoticed. I want to do my part and shed light on independent artists that put all their love and energy into their work. I think we can all help spread their art through the world, as it can influence others to create their own.
Elis had something to say to other aspiring fellow artists.
“Do what you feel is right, and don’t follow the waves if you want to make something that’s meaningful to you.”
